Charles D. Smith is the Chairman CEO and Founder of Urban Icon International Ltd., a company that works directly with stable governments and civic and enterprise leaders designing custom solutions that address their growth, development and investment needs to build vibrant sports and entertainment communities across the African Continent.

His 25 years of success as an entrepreneur and corporate executive after playing 10 years in the NBA and representing the United States as an Olympian enhanced his business acumen and global endeavors to position himself at the center of sports, business, and technology.

Mr. Smith has traveled to over 40 countries, 42 of the 50 states in the United States and has transacted business in 5 of the 7 continents. He began organizing and hosting investment conferences in 2011 for athletes, entrepreneurs, and businesses. Over time, the conferences expanded to CEO’s, dignitaries, private equity firms and family offices in iconic venues such as the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and at global destinations like Bermuda, Dubai, Caymen Islands and the Bahamas.

Charles also produced and executed exhibition games featuring over 40 retired NBA players against local all-star teams throughout Asia and South America. To date, his conferences and sports events are responsible for over one billion dollars in cross cultural collaborations.

He is currently a resource board member for Family Office Association in the U.S. whereby Mr. Smith educates many U.S. businesses and Family Offices on the growing opportunities throughout Africa.

Mr. Smith’s corporate experiences have varied over his career. He was the First, First Vice President of National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). A position specifically created for him by the NBPA Exec. Dir. in 1992. There he launched the NBPA Foundation as its secretary.

Former Founder and CEO of New Media Technology Corp., developing the patents, system and method for computer-assisted manual and automatic logging of time-based media. Major League Baseball (MLB) was an anchor client and today, Hewlett Packard, North Plains and Stats Inc. are licensees.

Former Head of Sports & Entertainment for Media Com, which is owned by the largest media company in the world, WPP/GroupM. He is responsible for strategizing and directing a team that builds value for talent through social media services and brand partnerships.

Mr. Smith is a dual citizen of Cape Verde in West Africa and the United States. He has made one of the best transitions in the world from being an elite professional athlete to an accomplished self-sufficient business professional.
